Do you know which one document proves who you are in the world? Yep, that’s right it is your passport. It is the only recognized identity statement accepted around the world. When traveling internationally you will need to have a country issued passport for both adults and children. Always be sure to check the validity of your passport and expiration date. Most countries require that the passport be valid for an additional 3 months from your first arrival date. Always carry a copy of the front page of your passport in the unlikely event you need to secure another one. This will make the tedious process significantly easier for the US Embassy. I am happy and sad to say that I have helped someone get another passport in 3 hours after theirs was stolen. It is not the ideal situation to be in, however traveling with a knowledgeable guide like me can always ease the process.

Do not forget to verify the need for proper Visa documentation for all countries that you are visiting or even traveling through (transit). Do not believe the first person you ask, ask three separate times and this can be a very costly mistake and undue frustration.

Tip: Give a copy of your passport to someone at home in the event that you need them to fax it to you in case of an emergency situation.
